old red bookHere is a beautiful and mystical hymn/poem by the Victorian convert F.W.Faber. As all good hymns should do it blends deep theology, sublime worship and radiant insights.

Amid the eternal silences

God’s endless Word was spoken

none heard but He who always spake

and the silence was unbroken.

Oh marvelous! Oh Worshipful!

No song or sound is heard,

But everywhere and every hour

In love, In wisdom, and in power,

The Father speaks His dear Eternal Word!

Forever in the eternal land

The glorious Day is dawning

Foreve is the Father’s Light

Like and endless outspread morning

Oh marvelous! Oh Worshipful!

No song or sound is heard,

But everywhere and every hour

In love, In wisdom, and in power,

The Father speaks His dear Eternal Word!

From the Father’s vast tranquility

In light co-equal glowing

The kingly consubstantial Word

Is unuttterably flowing

Oh marvelous! Oh Worshipful!

No song or sound is heard,

But everywhere and every hour

In love, In wisdom, and in power,

The Father speaks His dear Eternal Word!

For ever climbs that Morning Star

Without ascent or motion

Forever is its daybreak shed

on the Sprit’s boundless ocean

Oh marvelous! Oh Worshipful!

No song or sound is heard,

But everywhere and every hour

In love, In wisdom, and in power,

The Father speaks His dear Eternal Word!
